Introduction
We hope member schools will hold an assembly about Fairtrade at least once a year. A good opportunity is during Fairtrade Fortnight, end of February/start of March, as there is often an Island wide project. In 2009, this focussed on bananas and over 4000 bananas were eaten on the same day in 20 schools. In 2011, over 200 cotton banners were decorated
All primary schools were provided with the Co-operative Book of Fairtrade activities for Fairtrade in 2007. For further copies contact the Jersey One World Centre at info [at] jerseyoneworldgroup [dot] org.
We hope that some schools will take up the challenge of becoming the first Jersey school to be nationally recognised as a Fairtrade School. A CD to help you get started is available at the Jersey One World Centre. Also look on the Fairtrade Foundation website, http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/schools for more information.
